Profile
Born in Kobe.
After completing studies at Kuwasawa Design School in 1959, graduated from Waseda University's First Faculty of Literature majoring in art in 1964. Inspired by the belief that a major university such as Waseda should set up a center for design education, Nakanishi announced a proposal for the establishment of a Waseda University Design Faculty, and together with Ryuichi Hamaguchi co-authored "Design Policy: Corporate Image Formation" Japan's first book on the subject of corporate identity.

Nakanishi founded PAOS in 1968 and continued to pursue research and practical application in the fields of design theory for management and design methodology development. PAOS has been commissioned for corporate identity projects by over 100 corporations and has created numerous success stories and hallmark designs by pursuing the practice of design as a means of achieving business strategies. PAOS New York was founded in 1980 followed by PAOS Boston and PAOS Beijing in 1985 and PAOS Shanghai in 1987. Motoo Nakanishi Office was founded in 1998 to move PAOS in the direction of a virtual company with an open system that allowed specialized teams to be assembled for specific projects. Nakanishi also began to devote more time to personal activities such as lecturing and consulting. PAOS was included as a case study in textbook used by Harvard University and Stanford University and Nakanishi delivered commemorative lectures in April 1997. From 1998 to 2000, Nakanishi worked as chairman of the G-Mark (Good Design Award) and helped guide the privatization of the organization away from government management by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry).

Nakanishi launched a new company, World Good Design Inc., in the year 2000 to promote a new design movement and develop contemporary business strategies. WGD China office was founded in 2003.

Nakanishi's lifelong intellectual interests are in the design mind and in design for business.
